ABOUT OUR NATIVE+BIPOC COMMUNITY SEED LIBRARY

Our Native + BIPOC Community Seed Library was created out of a desire to bring forth an intentional network of Seed Keepers and land stewards while increasing the accessibility of non-GMO, Native, and heirloom seeds for Native and BIPOC community members. When considering the prevalence of GMO seeds that threaten the biodiversity on our Earth and remove the important aspect of human connection from our food systems, we knew that we had a role to play as stewards and protectors of our Mother.

At Spirit of the Sun, we view seeds as our relatives and as catalysts of life. Our traditional Indigenous food systems have always been rooted in deep relationships between ourselves and the natural world. We speak to our seeds, we pray for them, and we care for them with diligence and intention. Seed keeping is a form of rematriation as it returns health and autonomy back to our Mother Earth. It is our responsibility to carry forth these ways to our youth and wider community. Through our Seed Library, we hope to preserve a biodiverse food system that is not only vast and accessible, but that is also resilient in the face of a changing world so that it may serve the next seven generations.

KEEP IN MIND

Are you familiar with GMOs and their negative effects?

Are you aware of any neighboring genetically engineered seeds or plants in your garden area?

What are your intentions with the seeds you wish to plant?

Are you willing to revisit SOTS after harvest, to replenish our community seed library with some of the seeds your garden will grow from these seeds?

Harvest only mature seeds.

SEED PROTECTOR PLEDGE

As I am now a Seed Protector, I pledge that I will protect and nurture these seeds as I would a precious child in my family.

I will protect these seeds from cross germination with any neighboring genetically engineered seeds or plants or invasive seed varieties.

I will harvest and process future seeds with a gentle hand and keep intentions to replenish SOTS Seed Library.

I will not waste or discard any unused seeds that may be left over from planting or harvesting.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN STEWARDING SOTS SEEDS, PLEASE FILL OUT THE SEED PICK-UP REQUEST FORM BELOW:
