The Fall Equinox is a sacred time across many Indigenous cultures—a moment when day and night stand in balance, reminding us of our responsibility to live in right relationship with one another, the land, and generations yet to come. It is a time to honor what has been cultivated through resilience and collective effort, and to plant seeds that will sustain the future.

For Indigenous peoples, cultural knowledge is carried through relationships—with land, language, and lived practice. Across generations, colonial systems disrupted these relationships in profound ways. Yet our communities continue to endure, guided by ancestral wisdom and a deep commitment to balance. Today, we are restoring Indigenous stewardship of land as a pathway to cultural continuance, healing, and self‑determination for the next seven generations.

Spirit of the Sun is honored to be one of the Indigenous‑led organizations serving Native and Indigenous youth, young adults, elders, and families throughout Colorado’s Front Range. Our programs—centered on youth development, land stewardship, food access, and community education—reflect Indigenous values of reciprocity, responsibility, and collective growth. Through multigenerational learning and community‑centered spaces, we are harvesting the strength of our people while planting opportunity for those who will follow.

On September 24, 2026, we will gather at the Denver Botanic Gardens to celebrate this shared vision and to launch our 2026 Campaign for Indigenous Self‑Determination. This evening will honor the balance between past, present, and future—recognizing the power we are reclaiming today and the future we are planting together.

Spirit of the Sun envisions the return of land to Indigenous stewardship, where we can operate our programs, care for bison, practice Indigenous agricultural traditions, and model a way of living grounded in balance with the Earth. Our collective goal of $2,000,000 will help bring this vision to life—ensuring that cultural knowledge, food sovereignty, and land‑based teachings endure for generations to come.
